Anthony Scoma

Lead Pastor

Family:

Deanna and I met at the University of Texas and were married in 1995. Our daughter Anika was born in 2002 and our son Ari followed two years later. She looks like mom and acts dad, he looks like dad and acts like mom. None of us hold a candle to our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Wendy Bird. The newest member of the family is a Huskie named Topo

What I do at church:

A little of this and a little of that. As the lead pastor my primary responsibility is to teach God’s truth to the church body at large and provide vision and leadership to the leaders of the church.

Education:

I have a BA in History and English from The University of Texas at Austin, a Master’s of Divinity from The Assemblies of God Theological Seminary in Springfield, MO, and a Doctorate of Historical Theology from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary.

How I Got Here:

I-35 South. I grew up in the DFW area before moving to Austin for school in 1990. Deanna grew up in South Austin. After seminary, I served as an associate pastor at a church in Springfield, MO. In 2003, that church helped us come home and start SWFF here in Austin. Nine families moved with us.

Favorite Sports Team:

As a Longhorn, I bleed Burnt Orange in every way. But my number one spirt is baseball and I have been a diehard Rangers fan since we moved to the DFW metroplex in 1978, I am also a Cowboys fan… sigh.

Favorite Toy growing up:

For about six years of my life, every birthday and Christmas revolved around Star Wars toys. Perhaps the greatest single gift was when Santa brought the Millennium Falcon.

Favorite Bible verse:

Exodus 33:15-16

Favorite Bible Story:

The Old Testament hero, Gideon. He started bound by fear and a poor self-image, but God still used him to do great things. I only hope I leave a better legacy than Gideon did (read the story – Judges 6-8 – you’ll like it.)
