There’s a tactic by a group called “the new atheists” that points out troublesome passages from the Old Testament to try and create doubt and disgust in people of faith. If I were them, I might start with the text from our sermon this week. This story from the narrative of Abraham – “the father of faith” – might be one of those most offensive I’ve ever read. But dig deeper and it becomes one of the most uplifting.
