When we say “God is love”, we mean a number of complex things. One of them is the aspect of fatherly love. In an age of growing awareness of the societal pain caused by patriarchal oppression, child abuse and family dysfunction, is it even appropriate to speak of God as “Father”? Actually it’s vital.
